Not sure how many of you know this, but recently a woman who was trapped in a car sustained injuries that led to parapalegism when a Good Samaritan removed her from the vehicle as he believed her to be trapped. As she contended that she would've been better off without his assistance and to wait for paramedic care, she was successfully able to argue in court that she has the right to sue the GS.
Should she successfully sue the GS, this has long-range effects that living in Southern CA are possible to affect us all. If it is a viable argument, e.g., should we have an earthquake, helping someone out if pinned could get someone sued.
My friend who works with the City has put in an inquiry to find out what the legal ramifications could be if this passes. However, I would hope that in the neighborhood we live in, it would be recognized that anyone here trying to help someone else would be recognized as such.
